Membership of the Scheme is not restricted to plumbers as many people believe. It is open to ALL employees within the plumbing and mechanical services industry, including office staff and other trades employed by a plumbing company. If you are employed within the industry, aged between 16 and 65 and your employer participates in the Scheme then you may be eligible to join the Scheme. Membership is not open to the self-employed, but we can accept directors if the firm is “limited”.
If you meet the eligibility criteria but your employer does not automatically enrol you in the Scheme, you can ask your employer to allow you to join the Scheme. You will need your employer’s consent to join the Scheme because your employer will need to contribute towards the cost of your benefits.
Although the Scheme is closed to new employers it is still able to accept new employees of existing employers.
